KRTAP2-4

Description

The KRTAP2-4 (keratin associated protein 2-4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

KRTAP2-4 is a hair keratin-associated protein (KRTAP) found in the hair cortex. It forms an interfilamentous matrix that embeds hair keratin intermediate filaments, contributing to the formation of a rigid and resistant hair shaft. KRTAP2-4 achieves this rigidity through extensive disulfide bond cross-linking with hair keratins, facilitated by its abundance of cysteine residues. KRTAP2-4 belongs to the group of high-sulfur keratin-associated proteins, playing a key role in the structural integrity of hair.

KRTAP2-4 is also known as KAP2.1B, KAP2.3, KAP2.4, KRTAP2-3, KRTAP2.3, KRTAP2.4.
