KRTAP2-2

Description

The KRTAP2-2 (keratin associated protein 2-2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

KRTAP2-2 plays a crucial role in hair structure by forming an interfilamentous matrix within the hair cortex. This matrix, composed of KRTAPs, is essential for the creation of a strong and resilient hair shaft. The protein achieves this by forming extensive disulfide bonds with the cysteine residues of hair keratins. KRTAP2-2 is classified as a high-sulfur keratin-associated protein.

KRTAP2-2 is also known as KAP2.1, KAP2.2, KRTAP2-1, KRTAP2.1A, KRTAP2.1B.
