KRTAP13-4

Description

The KRTAP13-4 (keratin associated protein 13-4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

KRTAP13-4 is found in the hair cortex, where it contributes to the formation of a strong and resilient hair shaft. It interacts with hair keratin intermediate filaments, forming a matrix that helps to hold these filaments together. This matrix is composed of high-sulfur and high-glycine-tyrosine keratins. KRTAP13-4, with its abundance of cysteine residues, plays a crucial role in this matrix by forming extensive disulfide bonds with hair keratins, creating a robust structure.

KRTAP13-4 is also known as KAP13.4.
