KRTAP13-3

Description

The KRTAP13-3 (keratin associated protein 13-3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

KRTAP13-3, a hair keratin-associated protein, plays a crucial role in the structural integrity of the hair shaft. It contributes to the formation of a robust and resilient hair fiber by integrating with hair keratin intermediate filaments within the hair cortex. This integration is achieved through extensive disulfide bond cross-linking with the cysteine residues present in hair keratins. This cross-linking process is facilitated by the high-sulfur and high-glycine-tyrosine content of KRTAP13-3.

KRTAP13-3 is also known as KAP13.3.
