KRTAP13-2

Description

The KRTAP13-2 (keratin associated protein 13-2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

KRTAP13-2 plays a crucial role in the hair cortex, where it forms part of the interfilamentous matrix surrounding hair keratin intermediate filaments. This protein‘s extensive disulfide bond cross-linking with cysteine residues in hair keratins contributes to the formation of a strong and resilient hair shaft. It belongs to a group of matrix proteins that include high-sulfur and high-glycine-tyrosine keratins.

KRTAP13-2 is also known as KAP13-2.
