KRTAP13-1

Description

The KRTAP13-1 (keratin associated protein 13-1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

KRTAP13-1 plays a crucial role in the structure and strength of hair. Within the hair cortex, it forms part of the interfilamentous matrix, a network of proteins surrounding keratin filaments. This matrix is essential for creating a strong, rigid hair shaft by forming extensive disulfide bonds with hair keratins, which are rich in cysteine residues. KRTAP13-1, as a high-sulfur keratin-associated protein, contributes significantly to this process.

KRTAP13-1 is also known as KAP13.1, KRTAP13.1.
