KRTAP11-1

Description

The KRTAP11-1 (keratin associated protein 11-1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

KRTAP11-1 is a key component of the hair shaft's structure. It forms part of the interfilamentous matrix surrounding keratin intermediate filaments, contributing to the hair's rigidity and resistance. This protein achieves this by extensively cross-linking with keratin through disulfide bonds, utilizing its abundance of cysteine residues.

KRTAP11-1 is also known as HACL-1, HACL1, KAP11.1.
