KRT78

Description

The KRT78 (keratin 78) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

The KRT78 gene encodes a protein called Keratin, type II cytoskeletal 78. This protein belongs to the type II keratin gene family and contains an intermediate filament domain. Keratins are crucial structural proteins in epithelial cells, creating a network of intermediate filaments that provides strength and resilience to cells against various stresses. The KRT78 gene is part of a gene cluster located on chromosome 12p13.13. Four pseudogenes related to this gene family have been identified.

KRT78 is also known as CK-78, K5B, K78, Kb40.
