KRT36
Description
The KRT36 (keratin 36) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.
Keratin, type I cuticular Ha6 is a protein encoded by the KRT36 gene in humans. It belongs to the keratin gene family and is an acidic type I hair keratin. This protein forms heterodimers with type II keratins, ultimately contributing to the structure of hair and nails. The genes encoding type I hair keratins are clustered on chromosome 17q12-q21 and share the same direction of transcription.
KRT36 is also known as HA6, KRTHA6, hHa6.
