KLK1
Description
The KLK1 (kallikrein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.
Kallikrein-1 is a protein encoded by the KLK1 gene in humans. It belongs to the peptidase S1 family, a subgroup of serine proteases with diverse physiological functions. Many kallikreins are linked to carcinogenesis and have potential as biomarkers for cancer and other diseases. This gene is part of a cluster of fifteen kallikrein subfamily members located on chromosome 19. Kallikrein-1 is conserved in its ability to release the vasoactive peptide Lys-bradykinin from low molecular weight kininogen.
KLK1 is also known as KLKR, Klk6, hK1.
