KLHL42
Description
The KLHL42 (kelch like family member 42) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.
KLHL42 acts as a substrate-specific adapter in a protein complex called BCR (BTB-CUL3-RBX1), which is an E3 ubiquitin ligase. This complex plays a critical role in cell division, specifically in the progression of mitosis and the process of cytokinesis (cell splitting). The BCR complex, with KLHL42 as a key component, targets a protein called KATNA1 for ubiquitination and subsequent degradation. This degradation is important for proper microtubule dynamics, which are essential for the accurate separation of chromosomes during mitosis.
KLHL42 is also known as Ctb9, KLHDC5.
