KLF8

Description

The KLF8 (KLF transcription factor 8) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

KLF8, or Kruppel-like factor 8, is a protein encoded by the KLF8 gene in humans. It belongs to the KLF protein family, and its activity is regulated by other KLF proteins, with KLF1 and KLF3 activating KLF8 while KLF3 also represses it. KLF8 has been shown to interact with CTBP2.

KLF8 acts as both a transcriptional repressor and activator. It binds to CACCC-boxes within promoter elements, and also binds to the GT-box of the cyclin D1 promoter, regulating cell cycle progression during the G1 phase. This regulation occurs as a downstream target of focal adhesion kinase (FAK).

KLF8 is also known as BKLF3, ZNF741.
