KBTBD7

Description

The KBTBD7 (kelch repeat and BTB domain containing 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.

Kelch repeat and BTB domain-containing protein 7 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the KBTBD7 gene.

KBTBD7 plays a crucial role in regulating RAC1 signaling by acting as a substrate adapter in the CUL3(KBTBD6/7) E3 ubiquitin ligase complex. This complex specifically targets the RAC1 guanine exchange factor (GEF) TIAM1 for ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation, ultimately controlling the level of RAC1 activation. This process is essential for the proper organization of the cytoskeleton, cell migration, and cell proliferation. The membrane-associated protein GABARAP is required for TIAM1 ubiquitination and potentially restricts the activity of the complex locally.
