INSL4
Description
The INSL4 (insulin like 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.
The INSL4 gene encodes a protein called Early placenta insulin-like peptide (EPIL) in humans. EPIL belongs to the insulin superfamily and is produced as a precursor that undergoes processing to form three polypeptide chains (A-C). These chains assemble into tertiary structures containing either all three chains or just chains A and B. EPIL expression occurs in the early placental cytotrophoblast and syncytiotrophoblast.
INSL4 is also known as EPIL, PLACENTIN.
