SPINT2

Description

The SPINT2 (serine peptidase inhibitor, Kunitz type 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

Kunitz-type protease inhibitor 2 is an enzyme inhibitor encoded by the SPINT2 gene in humans. SPINT2 is a transmembrane protein with two extracellular Kunitz domains that inhibit serine proteases. This gene is a presumed tumor suppressor by inhibiting HGF activator, preventing the formation of active hepatocyte growth factor. Mutations in SPINT2 could result in congenital sodium diarrhea (CSD).

Inhibits the activity of hepatocyte growth factor activator (HGFAC) (PubMed:9346890). Also inhibits plasmin, plasma kallikrein, and tissue kallikrein (PubMed:9115294). Inhibits serine protease activity of TMPRSS13 (PubMed:20977675, PubMed:28710277). Inhibits serine protease activity of ST14/matriptase in vitro (PubMed:28710277).

SPINT2 is also known as DIAR3, HAI-2, HAI2, Kop, PB.
