RPS29

Description

The RPS29 (ribosomal protein S29) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

The RPS29 gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 40S subunit, part of the ribosome, the cellular machinery responsible for protein synthesis. The protein contains a zinc-binding domain and can enhance the tumor suppressor activity of a related protein. Variations in RPS29 expression have been observed in colorectal cancer, but no correlation with disease severity has been found. Mutations in RPS29 are associated with Diamond-Blackfan anemia.

RPS29 is a component of the small ribosomal subunit (PubMed:23636399, PubMed:25901680, PubMed:25957688). The ribosome is a large ribonucleoprotein complex responsible for the synthesis of proteins in the cell (PubMed:23636399, PubMed:25901680, PubMed:25957688).

RPS29 is also known as DBA13, S29, uS14.
