RPL27

Description

The RPL27 (ribosomal protein L27) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

RPL27 is a human gene that encodes the 60S ribosomal protein L27, a key component of the large ribosomal subunit, which is responsible for protein synthesis. Ribosomes consist of two subunits: the small 40S subunit and the large 60S subunit. RPL27 belongs to the L27E family of ribosomal proteins and is found in the cytoplasm. Due to its ribosomal function, multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene exist throughout the human genome.

RPL27 is a component of the large ribosomal subunit and is essential for proper rRNA processing and maturation of 28S and 5.8S rRNAs. This role is supported by multiple studies (PubMed:12962325, PubMed:23636399, PubMed:25424902, PubMed:25901680, PubMed:25957688, PubMed:32669547).

RPL27 is also known as DBA16, L27, eL27.
