RPL19

Description

The RPL19 (ribosomal protein L19) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

The RPL19 gene encodes for the 60S ribosomal protein L19, a component of the 60S subunit of the ribosome, the cellular machinery responsible for protein synthesis. The ribosome is composed of two subunits, a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit, which together contain 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. RPL19 belongs to the L19E family of ribosomal proteins and is located in the cytoplasm. Like many genes encoding ribosomal proteins, RPL19 has multiple processed pseudogenes dispersed throughout the genome.

RPL19 is a component of the large ribosomal subunit, which is responsible for protein synthesis in the cell. (PMID:23636399, PMID:32669547)

RPL19 is also known as L19, eL19.
