C2 : complement C2

Description

The C2 gene, also known as the CD2 gene, encodes a transmembrane protein found on the surface of T cells. This protein plays a crucial role in the immune system, acting as a co-receptor that enhances T cell activation and signaling. It binds to its ligand, CD58, on other cells, initiating a cascade of intracellular events that ultimately lead to T cell proliferation and cytokine production. This complex interaction is essential for the proper function of the immune response, enabling the body to effectively combat infections and maintain immune homeostasis.
