IER2
Description
The IER2 (immediate early response 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.
IER2 protein is a DNA-binding protein that acts as a transcription factor (PubMed:19584537). It plays a role in neuronal differentiation, JNK-signaling pathway activation, and neurite outgrowth in hippocampal cells (By similarity). IER2 may mediate FIBP FGF-signaling in the establishment of laterality in the embryo (By similarity). It also promotes cell motility and seems to stimulate tumor metastasis (PubMed:22120713). These functions are supported by evidence from UniProtKB:B7SXM5, UniProtKB:Q6P7D3, PubMed:19584537, and PubMed:22120713.
IER2 is also known as CHX1, ETR101.
