The HYI (hydroxypyruvate isomerase (putative)) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

HYI catalyzes the reversible conversion between hydroxypyruvate and 2-hydroxy-3-oxopropanoate, also known as tartronate semialdehyde.
