HS6ST2

Description

The HS6ST2 (heparan sulfate 6-O-sulfotransferase 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

Heparan sulfate 6-O-sulfotransferase 2 is a protein encoded by the HS6ST2 gene in humans. It is part of the heparan sulfate (HS) sulfotransferase family, which plays a crucial role in the synthesis of heparan sulfates. These sulfates are found on the cell surface, in the extracellular matrix, and in basement membranes. They interact with various ligands, influencing important cellular processes like growth, differentiation, adhesion, and migration. Different members and isoforms of the HS sulfotransferase family create heparan sulfates with specific structures and functions tailored to different tissues. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for the HS6ST2 gene.

Heparan-sulfate 6-O-sulfotransferase 2 (HS6ST-2) is an enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of a sulfate group from 3'-phosphoadenosine 5'-phosphosulfate (PAPS) to the 6th position of the N-sulfoglucosamine residue (GlcNS) within heparan sulfate.

HS6ST2 is also known as MRXSPM.
