HPN

Description

The HPN (hepsin) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

HPN, or Hepsin, is a human gene that encodes a serine protease involved in various cellular processes.

Hepsin is a serine protease that cleaves extracellular substrates, contributing to the proteolytic processing of growth factors like HGF and MST1/HGFL. It plays a role in cell growth and morphology maintenance, as well as the proteolytic processing of ACE2. Hepsin also mediates the proteolytic cleavage of urinary UMOD, which is essential for UMOD polymerization.

HPN is also known as TMPRSS1.
