HOXA7

Description

The HOXA7 (homeobox A7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

HOXA7 is a gene that encodes the homeobox protein Hox-A7 in humans. Homeobox genes are a family of transcription factors involved in embryonic development, controlling cell identity and differentiation. HOXA7 belongs to the A cluster of homeobox genes located on chromosome 7. The protein encoded by HOXA7 binds to DNA and regulates gene expression, ultimately influencing morphogenesis and differentiation. It is particularly involved in keratinocyte proliferation, where it represses the transcription of differentiation-specific genes. However, this repression can be overcome by differentiation signals. HOXA7 exhibits high similarity to the antennapedia (Antp) gene in Drosophila, highlighting its conserved function in development across species.

HOXA7 is also known as ANTP, HOX1, HOX1.1, HOX1A.
