HOXA4

Description

The HOXA4 (homeobox A4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

HOXA4, encoded by the HOXA4 gene, is a transcription factor that belongs to the homeobox gene family. Homeobox genes are crucial for regulating embryonic development and are found in clusters on different chromosomes. HOXA4 is part of the A cluster on chromosome 7. It binds to DNA and regulates gene expression, influencing morphogenesis and cell differentiation.

HOXA4 is a sequence-specific transcription factor that plays a crucial role in development. It contributes to a regulatory system that determines the spatial organization of cells along the body's anterior-posterior axis. HOXA4 binds to specific DNA sequences within the regulatory regions of its target genes, with varying levels of affinity. The consensus sequences for its binding sites include 5'-TAATGA[CG]-3' (high affinity) and 5'-CTAATTTT-3' (low affinity).

HOXA4 is also known as HOX1, HOX1D.
