HIST1H4D

Histone H4

Description:

Histone H4 is one of the five core histones that form the structural scaffold of chromatin, the complex of DNA and proteins that makes up chromosomes. H4 is a highly alkaline protein and is relatively conserved across eukaryotes. It consists of 102 amino acids and has a molecular weight of approximately 11.3 kDa.

Associated Diseases:

Mutations in the H4 gene have been linked to a number of diseases, including:

  • Neurodegenerative disorders: H4 mutations have been implicated in Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
  • Cancer: H4 mutations have been linked to the development of certain types of cancer, such as leukemia, lymphoma, and breast cancer.
  • Developmental disorders: H4 mutations have been associated with intellectual disability, autism, and schizophrenia.

Did you Know ?

Approximately 10% of the human genome is composed of histone proteins, including H4.
