HES6
Description
The HES6 (hes family bHLH transcription factor 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.
HES-6 is a protein encoded by the HES6 gene in humans. It interacts with TLE1 and is involved in regulating gene expression.
HES6 doesn't directly bind to DNA but plays a role in regulating gene expression. It inhibits the activity of another protein, HES1, by blocking its ability to suppress gene transcription at specific DNA sequences (N box and E box). Additionally, HES6 counters the inhibitory effect of HES1 on the complex formed by ASCL1/MASH1 and TCF3/E47, ultimately promoting the activation of gene transcription by these proteins. This interplay suggests a role for HES6 in promoting cell differentiation.
HES6 is also known as C-HAIRY1, HES-6, bHLHb41, bHLHc23.
