THPO : thrombopoietin

Description

The THPO (thrombopoietin) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

The THPO gene provides instructions for producing thrombopoietin, a protein crucial for the growth and division of cells. Thrombopoietin binds to and activates the thrombopoietin receptor, triggering signaling pathways that regulate blood cell production. This protein is particularly important for the proliferation of megakaryocytes, the cells responsible for platelet production, which are involved in blood clotting. Studies suggest that thrombopoietin signaling may also be involved in the renewal of hematopoietic stem cells, the source of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets within bone marrow.

THPO is also known as CAMT2, MGDF, MKCSF, ML, MPLLG, THC9, THCYT1, TPO.
