RPL15
Description
The RPL15 (ribosomal protein L15) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.
The RPL15 gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 60S subunit, a part of the ribosome, the organelle responsible for protein synthesis. The protein belongs to the L15E family of ribosomal proteins and is located in the cytoplasm. It shares sequence similarity with the yeast ribosomal protein YL10 gene and has been shown to be overexpressed in some esophageal tumors. While previously referred to as RPL10, its official symbol is RPL15. Transcript variants utilizing alternative polyA signals exist for this gene.
Component of the large ribosomal subunit. Ribosomes are essential ribonucleoprotein complexes responsible for protein synthesis in cells. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:23636399, ECO:0000269|PubMed:32669547}
RPL15 is also known as DBA12, EC45, L15, RPL10, RPLY10, RPYL10, eL15.
