MPL : MPL proto-oncogene, thrombopoietin receptor

Description

The MPL (MPL proto-oncogene, thrombopoietin receptor) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

The MPL gene provides instructions for producing the thrombopoietin receptor protein, crucial for the growth and division of cells, especially megakaryocytes, which produce platelets. This receptor may also play a role in maintaining hematopoietic stem cells. The thrombopoietin receptor activates when thrombopoietin binds to it, triggering the JAK/STAT pathway, a signaling pathway that transmits chemical signals to the cell's nucleus, controlling blood cell production.

The MPL gene encodes the thrombopoietin receptor, a key regulator of megakaryopoiesis and platelet production. It may also play a role in regulating TPO-R-dependent immune responses.

MPL is also known as C-MPL, CD110, MPLV, THCYT2, THPOR, TPOR.
