HDAC9

Description

The HDAC9 (histone deacetylase 9) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

Histone deacetylase 9 (HDAC9) is an enzyme involved in regulating gene expression and cellular processes. It is a member of the histone deacetylase family, which play a critical role in histone modifications. HDAC9 specifically removes acetyl groups from histones, leading to changes in chromatin structure and impacting gene transcription. This enzyme is implicated in a variety of cellular functions, including cell cycle progression, development, and the regulation of gene expression. HDAC9 is also associated with the repression of MEF2-dependent transcription, a process involved in skeletal muscle development. Multiple splice variants of HDAC9 have been identified, some of which lack the catalytic domain and are therefore not directly involved in histone deacetylation. These variants may still play a role in regulating gene expression through interactions with other proteins.

HDAC9 is also known as ARCND4, HD7, HD7b, HD9, HDAC, HDAC7, HDAC7B, HDAC9B, HDAC9FL, HDRP, MITR.
