GSX2

Description

The GSX2 (GS homeobox 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

GSX2 is a transcription factor that binds to the DNA sequence 5‘-CNAATTAG-3‘ and regulates the expression of many genes, including those involved in brain development. It plays a role in the ventralization of pallial progenitors during telencephalic development and determines different neuronal fates depending on the developmental stage. At early stages, GSX2 is necessary and sufficient to correctly specify the ventral lateral ganglionic eminence (LGE) and its main derivatives, the striatal projection neurons. At later stages, GSX2 may contribute to the specification of LGE progenitors towards dorsal LGE fates, including olfactory bulb interneurons.

GSX2 is also known as DMJDS2, GSH2.
