GPT

Description

The GPT (glutamic--pyruvic transaminase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

GPT can refer to several things, including the human gene GPT and the protein it encodes.

GPT catalyzes the reversible transfer of an amino group from alanine to 2-oxoglutarate, producing pyruvate and glutamate. This reaction plays a crucial role in cellular nitrogen metabolism and contributes to liver gluconeogenesis by processing precursors transported from skeletal muscles.

GPT is also known as AAT1, ALT, ALT1, GPT1, SGPT.
