GP2

Description

The GP2 (glycoprotein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

GP2, GP.2, GP-2 or variant, may refer to:

GP2 acts as a receptor on intestinal M-cells, specifically targeting type-I-piliated bacteria. It binds to fimH, a protein found at the tip of the bacteria's type I pilus, at the apical membrane of M-cells. This binding leads to internalization of the bacteria, such as E.coli and S.typhimurium, from the intestinal lumen. These bacteria are then transported through M-cells to the underlying lymphoid follicles where they are taken up by antigen-presenting dendritic cells. This process triggers a mucosal immune response.

GP2 is also known as ZAP75.
