GOLPH3

Description

The GOLPH3 (golgi phosphoprotein 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

GOLPH3 is a phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate-binding protein that links Golgi membranes to the cytoskeleton and may participate in the tensile force required for vesicle budding from the Golgi. This role suggests its involvement in Golgi membrane trafficking and potentially contributing to the flattened shape of the Golgi apparatus. GOLPH3 may also bind to the coatomer to further regulate Golgi membrane trafficking. It is implicated in anterograde transport from the Golgi to the plasma membrane and secretion. Furthermore, GOLPH3 has been linked to the control of Golgi enzyme localization through interaction with their cytoplasmic parts. It may also indirectly influence cell migration. Additionally, GOLPH3 has been associated with the modulation of mTOR signaling and may be involved in the regulation of mitochondrial lipid biosynthesis.

GOLPH3 is also known as GOPP1, GPP34, MIDAS, Vps74.
