GOLGA3

Description

The GOLGA3 (golgin A3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

Golgin subfamily A member 3 is a protein encoded by the GOLGA3 gene in humans. The Golgi apparatus, responsible for protein and lipid glycosylation and transport in the secretory pathway, is composed of stacked cisternae (flattened membrane sacs). Golgi-microtubule interactions are believed to be crucial for Golgi reorganization after fragmentation during mitosis. This gene belongs to the golgin protein family, which is localized to the Golgi. Its encoded protein is thought to be involved in nuclear transport and Golgi apparatus localization. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been described, but their full-length nature remains undetermined.

GOLGA3 is also known as GCP170, MEA-2.
