GGT5

Description

The GGT5 (gamma-glutamyltransferase 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.

Gamma-glutamyltransferase 5 is an enzyme encoded by the GGT5 gene in humans. It belongs to a gene family with at least four members, including GGTLA1, GGTLA2, GGTLA3, and GGTLA4. While related to gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), GGT5 possesses distinct properties. It exists as a heterodimer with a heavy and light chain, capable of hydrolyzing the gamma-glutamyl moiety of glutathione.

GGT5 is also known as GGL, GGT 5, GGT-REL, GGTLA1.
