GAS6

Description

The GAS6 (growth arrest specific 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.

GAS6, also known as Growth arrest-specific 6, is a human gene coding for the GAS6 protein. It is similar to Protein S with the same domain organization and 43% amino acid identity. It was initially identified as a gene upregulated in growth-arrested fibroblasts. GAS6 is a gamma-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla) domain-containing protein believed to stimulate cell proliferation. It interacts with AXL receptor tyrosine kinase, MerTK and TYRO3. The presence of Gla in GAS6 requires a vitamin K-dependent enzymatic reaction that carboxylates specific glutamic acid residues during protein production in the endoplasmic reticulum. Vitamin K plays a crucial role in GAS6 function.

GAS6 is also known as AXLLG, AXSF.
