GABRG3

Description

The GABRG3 (gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptor subunit gamma3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

GABRG3, also known as GABAA receptor-γ3, is a protein encoded by the GABRG3 gene in humans. It serves as a subunit of the GABAA receptor for the neurotransmitter gamma-Aminobutyric acid (GABA). Genetic markers near the GABRG3 gene are statistically linked to alcoholism.

GABA, the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the vertebrate brain, facilitates neuronal inhibition by binding to the GABA/benzodiazepine receptor and opening an integral chloride channel.

GABRG3 is also known as -.
