FRS2
Description
The FRS2 (fibroblast growth factor receptor substrate 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.
FRS2 is a protein encoded by the FRS2 gene in humans. This 80 kDa membrane-anchored signal transducing adaptor protein (STAP) links activated Receptor Tyrosine Kinases (RTKs) to multiple downstream signaling pathways, including MAPK/ERK, PI3K/AKT/mTOR, and PLCγ pathways. It is overexpressed and amplified in several cancer types, including prostate cancer.
FRS2 acts as an adaptor protein, linking activated FGR and NGF receptors to downstream signaling pathways. It plays a crucial role in activating MAP kinases and phosphorylating PIK3R1, the regulatory subunit of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, in response to FGFR1 activation. FRS2 also modulates signaling through SHC1 by competing for a binding site on NTRK1.
