FRRS1

Description

The FRRS1 (ferric chelate reductase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

FRRS1, also known as Stromal cell-derived receptor 2 (SDR2), is a key enzyme involved in iron uptake and metabolism. It facilitates the reduction of ferric iron (Fe3+) to its ferrous form (Fe2+) within endosomes. This conversion is essential for the subsequent transport of iron from the endosome to the cytoplasm, where it can be utilized for various cellular processes.

FRRS1 is also known as SDFR2, SDR2.
