FOXP4
Description
The FOXP4 (forkhead box P4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.
Forkhead box protein P4 is a protein encoded by the FOXP4 gene in humans. It belongs to the forkhead box (FOX) transcription factor family, specifically subfamily P. These factors play crucial roles in regulating gene expression in various tissues and cell types during development and adulthood. Many members of the forkhead box gene family, including those in subfamily P, are involved in mammalian cancer development. FOXP4 might contribute to the development of kidney and larynx tumors. Multiple transcript variants are produced due to alternative splicing, some encoding different protein isoforms. Notably, FOXP4 is a significant factor in the development of Long COVID, increasing the risk of this poorly understood syndrome by 1.6-fold. This finding has significant implications for COVID-19 pandemic research.
FOXP4 is also known as hFKHLA.
