FOS

Description

The FOS (Fos proto-oncogene, AP-1 transcription factor subunit) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

FOS or Fos may refer to:

FOS is a nuclear phosphoprotein that forms a complex with JUN/AP-1 transcription factor. This complex binds to DNA and regulates gene expression. It is involved in TGF-beta signaling and has a critical role in bone development. FOS also plays a role in signal transduction, cell proliferation, and differentiation. It activates phospholipid synthesis in growing cells by activating CDS1 and PI4K2A. This activity requires Tyr-dephosphorylation and association with the endoplasmic reticulum.

FOS is also known as AP-1, C-FOS, p55.
