FGF7

Description

The FGF7 (fibroblast growth factor 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

Keratinocyte growth factor is a protein encoded by the FGF7 gene in humans. It belongs to the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family, known for its diverse roles in embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth, and invasion. This protein is a potent growth factor specifically for epithelial cells, particularly keratinocytes, but not fibroblasts or endothelial cells. Studies on its mouse and rat homologs suggest roles in epithelial morphogenesis, wound healing, hair development, and early lung formation. It interacts with Perlecan.

FGF7 is also known as HBGF-7, KGF.
