FDX1

Description

The FDX1 (ferredoxin 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

FDX1 is a gene that encodes a protein called adrenodoxin, which is a small iron-sulfur protein that carries electrons. Adrenodoxin is important in the mitochondrial cytochrome P450 systems, which are involved in the synthesis of steroid hormones. FDX1 is located on chromosome 11. It also has pseudogenes on chromosomes 20 and 21.

FDX1 is essential for the synthesis of various steroid hormones. It participates in the reduction of mitochondrial cytochrome P450 for steroidogenesis. FDX1 transfers electrons from adrenodoxin reductase to CYP11A1, a cytochrome P450 that catalyzes cholesterol side-chain cleavage. It does not form a ternary complex with adrenodoxin reductase and CYP11A1, but shuttles between the two enzymes to transfer electrons.

FDX1 is also known as ADX, FDX, LOH11CR1D.
