FCF1
Description
The FCF1 (FCF1 rRNA-processing protein) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.
The FCF1 gene encodes for the rRNA-processing protein FCF1 homolog, which is a protein found in humans.
The FCF1 protein is a component of the small subunit (SSU) processome, which is the initial precursor of the small eukaryotic ribosomal subunit. During the assembly of the SSU processome within the nucleolus, a multitude of ribosome biogenesis factors, an RNA chaperone, and ribosomal proteins collaborate with the nascent pre-rRNA. This collaboration results in RNA folding, modifications, rearrangements, and cleavage, as well as targeted degradation of pre-ribosomal RNA by the RNA exosome.
FCF1 is also known as Bka, C14orf111, CGI-35, UTP24.
