FASN

Description

The FASN (fatty acid synthase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

FASN may refer to Fatty acid synthase.

Fatty acid synthetase (FASN) is a multifunctional enzyme that catalyzes the de novo synthesis of long-chain saturated fatty acids from acetyl-CoA and malonyl-CoA in the presence of NADPH. This protein encompasses 7 catalytic activities and a binding site for the prosthetic group 4'-phosphopantetheine of the acyl carrier protein (ACP) domain.

FASN is also known as FAS, OA-519, SDR27X1.
