Description
The F2RL3 (F2R like thrombin or trypsin receptor 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.
F2RL3, or protease-activated receptor 4 (PAR-4), is a protein encoded by the F2RL3 gene. It belongs to the large family of 7-transmembrane-region receptors that couple to guanosine-nucleotide-binding proteins and is also a member of the protease-activated receptor family. F2RL3 is activated by proteolytic cleavage of its extracellular amino terminus, which acts as a tethered ligand and triggers activation. Thrombin and trypsin are known to activate this receptor.
This receptor is activated by thrombin or trypsin, triggering a signaling cascade that involves G proteins and phosphoinositide hydrolysis. It is believed to play a role in platelet activation.
F2RL3 is also known as PAR4.
