EXD2
Description
The EXD2 (exonuclease 3'-5' domain containing 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.
EXD2 is an exonuclease that exhibits both 3'-5' exoribonuclease and exodeoxyribonuclease activities, depending on the metal cofactor. It acts as a 3'-5' exoribonuclease in mitochondria, potentially regulating ATP production and mitochondrial translation. EXD2 is involved in DNA damage response, acting as a 3'-5' exodeoxyribonuclease for double-strand break resection and efficient homologous recombination. It is recruited to chromatin upon damage, interacts with the MRN complex, and accelerates resection by processing double-stranded DNA substrates containing nicks. EXD2 is also involved in the response to replicative stress. It is recruited to stalled replication forks and helps stabilize and restart them by preventing excessive fork regression and degradation.
