ELP5

Description

The ELP5 (elongator acetyltransferase complex subunit 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

ELP5, also known as Dermal papilla-derived protein 6 and S-phase 2 protein, is a component of the elongator complex, essential for modifications to transfer RNA (tRNA). These modifications include mcm5U (5-methoxycarbonylmethyl uridine), mcm5s2U (5-methoxycarbonylmethyl-2-thiouridine), and ncm5U (5-carbamoylmethyl uridine). The elongator complex plays a role in creating carboxymethyluridine at position 34 within tRNAs, contributing to proper tRNA function. ELP5 is also implicated in cell migration.

ELP5 is also known as C17orf81, DERP6, HSPC002, MST071, MSTP071.
